  3. FSSAI Central License: Large food companies with a turnover over 20 crore each year and food import and exporters need a Central license. They include large manufacturers, operators in special economic zones and big importers / exporters. The application for a central license also requires completing Form B.

Procedure for Obtaining an FSSAI License

The procedure for getting an FSSAI license has several steps, which include verification that the FBOs meet all requirements:

1. Application Submission: 

The FBO may apply online via the Food Safety Compliance System portal. Based on the kind of license, the FBO should complete either Form A (standard registration) or Form B (central license) or state. The completed form along with associated papers are brought to the Food and Safety department.

2. Document Submission: 

The application should be accompanied by mandatory documents – uploaded online or even submitted physically. They typically include proof of identity, proof of company address and a list of to be handled foods.

3. Application Scrutiny: 

The Department of Food & Safety department reviews the application and documents. Accepted applications are complete and accurate. Any inconsistencies will lead to application rejection, and the FBO will be informed within seven days of application submission.

4. Inspection: 

The department might at times examine the FBO’s premises to verify it meets safety and hygiene requirements.

5. Issuance of License: 

When the department is satisfied the FBO is compliant, the FSSAI registration certificate and 14-digit registration number is given. The certificate can be obtained for download from FoSCoS portal. The FBO is required to post the FSSAI license in the place of business during operating hours.
